Fabio Finotti 1957, he graduated from the Scuola Normale of Pisa.
Following an international competition in 1995, he became Mariano de Vito Chair of Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where until 2017 he directed the Italian Department and the Center for Italian Studies. He also teaches at the University of Trieste.
He is the international president of AISLLI (International Association for Italian Language and Literature Studies, promoted by UNESCO).
He is member of the board of ISNAF, the association of Italian scientists in the United States, and he is an ordinary member of the Olympic Academy.
His publications are concerned with Italian culture, civilization and society in the european and global context, from the time of Dante up to contemporary times.
His last two books are: "L'Italia allo specchio. Linguaggi e identità italiane nel mondo", with Marina Johnson (Marsilio, 2015) and "Italia. L'invenzione della patria" (Bompiani Publishers, 2016).
